If your Weber Q is not heating evenly, has cold spots, or the flames look yellow and lazy instead of blue and crisp, your burner is probably due for replacement. Gas burners corrode over time from heat, moisture, and grease. Replacing one takes about 15 minutes and no special tools.
Signs Your Burner Needs Replacing
- Uneven flames: some burner holes produce strong flames while others are weak or dead
- Yellow or orange flames instead of clean blue
- Hot spots and cold spots across the cooking surface
- Visible holes or cracks in the burner tube
- Longer preheat times
- A noticeable drop in maximum temperature
If your Weber takes twice as long to heat up as it used to, the burner is almost certainly the problem.
What You Need

Step by Step
- Disconnect the gas. Remove the gas bottle or disconnect the bayonet fitting. Wait for the BBQ to cool completely.
- Remove the grill plates and any griddle plates.
- Locate the burner. It sits below the cooking grates, held in place by one or two screws at the front and slotted into the gas valve at the back.
- Unscrew the front mounting screw(s).
- Gently lift the front of the burner and slide it forward to disengage it from the gas valve. Do not force it.
- Slide the new burner onto the gas valve. Make sure it seats fully. The back end should sit snugly over the valve nozzle.
- Replace the front mounting screw(s) and tighten.
- Reinstall your grill plates.
- Reconnect the gas and do a leak test: brush soapy water around all connections and look for bubbles. No bubbles means no leaks.
- Light the barbecue and check for even blue flames across the full length of the burner.
